January 6 Anniversary + Jamie McLeod Skinner

Welcome 2022 by Remembering January 6 As January 6 approaches, the first anniversary of the Insurrection at our nation’s Capital last year, groups and individuals across the country have organized vigils and actions to remember the event and remind us of how fragile our democracy is. To find one near you, check out this link. Or consider joining A4D’s steering committee members who will be attending Indivisible Sister’s online Zoom vigil at 7:00pm. In the words of the Sisters group, it will be a “chance to show our deep, continued resistance to Trumpist authoritarianism and the anti-democracy movement.” You can find the details and register here. And be sure to bring a candle to light. The Insurrection caused injury and death, damaged our Capitol, and inflicted a deep wound on our democracy that has been suppurating ever since. We must not forget what happened; we must demand action from our leaders to prevent another attack. Jamie McLeod-Skinner Is Running for Congress Act for Democracy’s steering committee unanimously recommends the endorsement of Jamie McLeod-Skinner in her race to become Oregon’s Congressional Representative for newly-redrawn District 5. By doing so, A4D would be joining three other Indivisible groups in District 5, all of which enthusiastically support Jamie. We invite all A4D members to read through these reasons the steering committee supports endorsing Jamie and get back to us by January 15 with any feedback you may have at: We are particularly interested in learning if any of you, our members, are committed to volunteering for or supporting McLeod-Skinner’s opponent Kurt Schrader. Absent any clear and significant disagreement, we will announce A4D’s endorsement of Jamie McLeod-Skinner in the days ahead. January 25 First A4D Meeting of the Year A4D’s first meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday, January 25, at our regular 5:00pm time. Make at note in your calendar. Portland City Commissioner Dan Ryan will be our guest. Happy New Year Everyone! Let’s Roll Up Our Sleeves for Another Year of Activism
