About Us!
Act for Democracy originated in the merger of two Indivisible teams: Indivisible97201 located in downtown Portland and One Small Thing PDX based in the northeast district of the city. Knowing that there is strength in numbers, the two groups decided to combine their resources, talents, and passion to become an even more effective force for progressive politics locally, statewide, and nationally.
Similar to the way our non-profit corporation unites both sides of the Willamette River, A4D believes in building bridges and knocking down walls that separate us from one another. Our guiding principle is the conviction that an individual, regularly doing one small thing, can make a big difference in our country’s future. Our collective actions have power.
The mission of A4D is to sustain democracy through grassroots initiatives that capitalize on our members' skills and relationships in order to advance and promote progressive legislation and support worthy issues. We also provide electoral support to progressive candidates at the local, state, and federal levels.
To achieve our goals, we:
-
identify issues that connect with our passions and lead to action
-
enhance civic education by hosting guest experts and sharing member knowledge
-
build skills in order to become more resourceful and efficient activists
-
organize people to actively support progressive legislation, causes, and candidates
-
adhere to non-violent action, inclusivity, diversity, and fairness for all
-
work with our sister Indivisible groups in Oregon and with the national Indivisible team
A4D is an affiliate of the national Indivisible movement, which was formed after the 2016 election to resist the extremist right-wing agenda and promote progressive values. We are proud to be part of a large advocacy community in Oregon and around the country.

A4D holds monthly meetings with an invited speaker on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Join us!
