The first meeting of the new incarnation of OSTPDX plus Indivisible97201—Act for Democracy—will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, January 26, from 5:00-6:30pm. Indivisible Senior Regional Organizing Manager, Tricia Sauer, will be our guest. Tricia will give a presentation about Indivisible’s plans for 2021, both statewide and nationally. Now that Trump is gone, the important work that lies ahead includes changing the underlying conditions that led to his ascendancy. Learn what you can do to make a difference in 2021! There will also be time to meet and chat with our new colleagues from I9701 via breakout groups. Start out the year with new partners in advocacy and refreshed energy! To register, use this link. You’ll receive a confirmation email with details for joining the meeting.
Act for Democracy’s First Action
In its first order of business, Act for Democracy signed a statement drafted by the Western States Center and the Northwest Accountability Project calling for the expulsion of Representative Mike Nearman from the state legislature. Nearman has a long history of supporting dangerous extremists and was caught on surveillance camera opening the door to far-right demonstrators and allowing them entry to the state Capitol during the special session on December 21. After a scuffle with police, the demonstrators were cleared from the building.
Because of growing concerns about civil disorder around Inauguration Day, the combined group of One Small Thing, Nasty Women, Indivisible Oregon, and Democracy Club have postponed their planned celebration of grassroots democracy on Tuesday, January 19, until a later date yet to be determined. Anyone who signed up to attend the celebration will have received a cancellation notification by now. As soon as a new date has been established, we’ll let you know.
