December 31, 2018 AAA

Dear OSTPDX Members,

Wishing you all a happy and safe New Year! 2019 is going to be a great year for progressives! Our hard work has propelled the most diverse group of Democrats into office who’ll bring with them big ideas, moving America forward. With House Democrats prepared to pass six bills on Thursday to reopen the government, all excluding any funds for the wall, putting the onus on the GOP and Trump to reopen the government. Democrats are taking action to lead us out of the mess we’re in and poised to accomplish more than Trump and the GOP has with control of all three branches of government over the past two years.

Our January meeting will pivot from midterm elections to the 2019 Oregon Legislative Session. Now we must put our progressive policies, super majority and democratic Governor to work!!

There will be time for questions and answers with our panel, in addition we will break into small groups to dig deeper into these three important issues and find out what actions are required to pass progressive legislation. Then we’ll break for libations and snacks at 9 PM.

OSTPDX & The Womxn’s March & Rally for Action

OSTPDX will be “Canopy Endorsers” at the Portland Womxn’s March & Rally for Action, meaning that we’ll have a booth at the event to provide educational information on what OSTPDX does and how folks can join us. Here’s some information on the event and its organizers:

Mission

The mission of Womxn’s March Portland (WM PDX) 2019 is to harness the political and organizational power of diverse womxn (and our communities) to create transformative social change. The Portland Womxn’s March 2019 is an intersectional, feminist, womxn-led movement.

About

Pride Northwest, a Portland-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, is serving as as fiscal sponsor for the 2019 Portland Women's March. The planning committee is comprised of a diverse group of womxn from across multiple communities and identities. All contributions will be used for the 2019 Portland Womxn's March. Use of any residual funds will be determined by the community planning committee.

Event Information

The Women's March on Washington convened a broad and diverse group of leaders to produce an intersectional platform known as the Unity Principles. Representing a new understanding of the connected nature of our struggles and a vision of our collective liberation, the Unity Principles continue to be a guiding light for our movement.

We believe that Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women’s Rights. We must create a society in which women - including Black women, Native women, poor women, immigrant women, disabled women, Muslim women, lesbian queer and trans women - are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments.

Why We March:
