Dear OSTPDX Members,

📷

One Small Thing PDX’s leadership team spent the weekend in Eugene attending a state-wide gathering of Consolidated Oregon Indivisible Network (COIN) where we were able to meet in person and make connections with Indivisible leaders all over the state. The gathering and trainings were both inspiring and very helpful for preparing Indivisible leaders to more effectively organize and collaborate for 2020 to tackle the state’s toughest hurdles beginning with the upcoming short legislative session.

Announcements

One Small Thing PDX will be co-hosting the PDX Impeach & Remove Protest with other Indivisible groups in the area.

DATE IS TO BE DETERMINED. To be notified when date & location are finalized, please register for the MoveOn Event at: https://www.impeach.org/event/impeach-and-remove/125712

On the eve of the House's momentous vote on Articles of Impeachment - the culmination of three years of public outcry, advocacy, and protests - it will be time to TAKE TO THE STREETS.

Join Stand On Every Corner PDX, Indivisible Oregon, and DemCast Oregon for a peaceful, nonviolent protest calling for Trump to be IMPEACHED and REMOVED. We'll join hundreds of events around the country supported by national groups like MoveOn, Indivisible, and Public Citizen.

The protest will be at 5:30pm on the evening before the House floor vote, probably sometime in early to mid December. When the House vote is announced, we'll finalize data and location. This may be on very short notice, so register NOW to make sure you are notified.

Both Representatives and Senators need to know that we are watching them at this historic juncture. Republicans and Democrats alike have an equal duty to uphold our constitution, protect our democracy, and impeach and remove President Trump.

One Small Thing-PDX Jan 28 General Meeting

OREGON’S 2020 SHORT LEGISLATIVE SESSION:

Issues, Strategies & Actions To Make an Impact in Our State

When: Tuesday, January 28, 2020 @ 7:00 PM (Doors open 6:40)

Where: Subud Center, 3185 NE Regents Drive, Portland OR

What key issues will Oregon legislators consider in the 2020 short session, which starts on February 3? Might Republican legislators simply walk out again, as they did last summer over the Clean Energy Jobs Bill? How can we help to support progressive legislation in our state?

We’ll discuss these questions and more at our January meeting, led by a legislator who’s in the thick of the action—Oregon’s House Majority Leader, Representative Barbara Smith Warner.

We’ll also hear from members of the OSTPDX 2019 Legislative Task Force who have been tracking the development of proposed legislation on four key issues for the 2020 short session: Climate Change, Gun Safety, Revenue, and Campaign Finance Reform. As well as sharing actions to take at the meeting, they are developing information that is being shared with Indivisible groups in the Consolidated Oregon Indivisible Network, who can use it to spur legislative action on progressive issues.

Don’t miss this chance to find out what’s happening in Salem and how you can help to promote important legislation. Plan to stay after the meeting for conversation and snacks.

Actions & Events

Oregon Helping Wisconsin Defeat Trump

Close wins in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin gave the 2016 election to Donald Trump. Of the three, polling indicates that Wisconsin will be the most challenging to turn Democratic.

We have been in touch with the Wisconsin Democratic Party which would very much appreciate Oregonians calling prospective volunteers in Wisconsin encouraging them to join one of their Neighborhood Teams. We have started making calls and have gotten an excellent response.

Everyone we’ll be calling has expressed interest in helping but has yet to make the commitment. Calls can be made from home, between 8am and 7pm PST. Training videos, scripts, and computer access to lists will be provided.

For the future of the planet and our society we have to make Trump a one-term president.

Are you interested in phoning to build the Wisconsin Neighborhood Teams? If so please email Lenny@OnwardOregon.org.
