COINversation on Oregon Wildfires Tomorrow!
Register now for what promises to be a fascinating and informative conversation about wildfires in Oregon and how to respond to them. Terrie Martin, who will moderate the panel discussion, is a journalist, founding member of Indivisible ORD2, and a member of COIN’s Leadership team; she lost a family business in last year’s Almeda Fire. Carina Miller is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and vice-chair of the Columbia River Gorge Commission. Jamie McLeod-Skinner is an attorney, small business owner, and planner who spent six months working on intensive wildfire recovery in Talent. Phil Chang is a Deschutes County Commissioner who works collaboratively to restore forests and habitats, and State Representative from District 35 Dacia Grayber is a professional firefighter. The COINversation begins at 7:00pm tomorrow, Tuesday, August 24. Reminders No August A4D Meeting + Keep Writing! There will be no Act for Democracy meeting this month but mark your calendars for September. State Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum will be our guest speaker at the monthly meeting on September 28 at 5:00pm. In the meantime, let’s keep writing postcards and letters! Indivisible Oregon makes it easy. They’ve prepared Vote Forward packets with twenty letters and envelopes and instructions, which can be picked up from a volunteer’s front porch. A volunteer will collect and stamp letters if they're done by August 29. You can also mail the letters yourself after September 18. Details and sign up here. If you prefer writing postcards and have already written postcards with the Center for Common Ground’s Reclaim Our Votes program, you can also pick up postcards from a volunteer’s front porch by making your preference known at this link. Or sign up directly here. Other options include joining a Zoom postcard-writing event (details here) or writing to voters in California with A4D’s postcard-writing group to defeat the Republican-led recall of Governor Gavin Newsom. Get in touch with Susan Nunnery at spnunnery@gmail.com to let her know how many sets of ten postcards you’d like. The deadline is August 31.
