Mark Your Calendar Multnomah County Commissioner Sharon Meieran will be our guest speaker at A4D’s November’s monthly meeting. Be sure to make a note in your calendar: Tuesday, November 23, 5:00pm. At Last! A Milestone Has Been Met The $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support last Friday and is on its way to President Biden’s desk for his signature. The first in Biden’s ambitious economic agenda, the bill authorizes current spending and commits $550 billion in new federal dollars to improve our country’s roads, bridges, and highways, expand access to broadband internet, overhaul the electric grid, and fund other much-needed projects. As the President put it, we can look “forward to having shovels in the ground and begin rebuilding America.” In addition to creating jobs and fixing an ailing infrastructure, the bill addresses the climate crisis through building a national network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country, funding environmental clean-up and remediation, and strengthening resilience for future climate disasters. For specifics, read a fact sheet here. Next up: the Build Back Better bill, which we want passed next week! Let’s keep the pressure on Representative Schrader so that he follows through on his commitment to back the plan. Track Your Efforts Start a COIN Squad To participate in the COIN Squad initiative, you have three options:

  • record any activist work you do between Monday and Friday here;

  • pull together some friends, name yourselves, then fill out the form and include the name of your squad; or

  • choose a captain for your squad and have the captain enter all of the group’s activities on the form

Connect for Democracy, A4D’s steering committee squad, called members of Congress 14 times, sent six emails, and spent time amplifying progressive messages on social media during the week ending October 31. Recording your activity is valuable because it can inspire others and demonstrate how much we’ve accomplished over time. Indivisible can then leverage its impact and take it to new levels.
