Current Actions & Activities

The Dream Act of 2021 Action Needed The Immigration Action Group of A4D encourages you to contact your senators to urge support of Senate Bill S264, known as the Dream Act of 2021. The bipartisan bill provides a process for Dreamers, young people who were brought to the US as children and grew up here, to obtain lawful permanent resident status via a green card. Of the estimated 2.3 million Dreamers in the US, only about 700,000 are DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients, which means they have a temporary reprieve from deportation that must be renewed every two years. Seventy-four percent of Americans support granting permanent legal status to Dreamers. For information on how to contact your senators, go here. Help Elect a Democrat in Louisiana’s March 20 Special Election Write Postcards Write postcards to residents of the fifth Congressional district in Louisiana, where there is an excellent opportunity for the Democratic candidate to win in the March 20th special election. But it will require a big push from everyone. Democrat Sandra “Candy” Christophe needs to receive 50% of the vote in order to avoid a run-off. If elected, she will be the first Black congresswoman to represent Louisiana. Early voting begins on March 13. To receive a list of addresses, contact Susan Nunnery at spnunnery@gmail.com. You can purchase postcards from the post office in person or online. A Celebration of Grassroots Advocacy Over 70 people joined Sunday’s celebration of more than four years of statewide activism and advocacy. Co-hosted by Act for Democracy, Democracy Club, allied Indivisible groups, Nasty Women Get Shit Done, and Indivisible Oregon, the To Victory and Beyondonline party included appreciations for work well done from Senator Wyden, Representative Blumenauer, Representative Bonamici, Jamie McLeod-Skinner, and Multnomah County Commissioner Jayapal. One Small Thing PDX founder Phyllis Brown provided an overview of our collective work while Indivisible Oregon's Smitha Chadaga fired everyone up to do more! Not to worry if you missed the good times. You can watch the photo slideshow and a video of invited guests. A4D Backs these Bills Here is a list of current bills that A4D supports.
